ACL: Using ACL to Increase Audit Efficiency and Effectiveness

Two Day Hands-On Training for Beginner and Intermediate Users

You are invited to learn or build upon your ACL skills in this two day session for beginner and intermediate users. We encourage all participants to attend both days, but those that meet the strict pre-requisites may attend the second day only.

With ACL technology, organizations can have a higher degree of confidence in the quality and completeness of their business assurance process. For more than 22 years, ACL’s technology has enabled 14,000 organizations worldwide to validate the effectiveness of internal controls.

Attendance will be limited to 18 participants given the hands-on nature of this course. Register early to secure your spot!

Fourteen (14) CPEs will be awarded for those whole attend the entire event. Lunch will be served both days, and printed materials will be provided. Participants MUST bring their own laptop and software (see all information below).

Beginner ACL (Day 1)

Learn how to improve your technical skills using the ACL software package. Not only will you be taught in an exciting hands-on fashion, you will be provided additional course materials to help you on your next audit, which will include:

  • A spreadsheet that provides a systematic method for determining the data elements required for testing
  • Suggestions for determining what tests should be performed (useful in developing continuous monitoring)
  • Data analysis techniques

Intermediate ACL (Day 2)

Learn how to improve your technical skills using the ACL software package.  Not only will you be taught in an exciting hands-on fashion, you will be provided additional course materials to help you on your next audit, which will include:

  • ACL Scripts that provide a model for use in continuous data monitoring routines
  • Suggestions for determining what tests should be performed
  • List of suggested tests to be performed  (You will be provided with a listing of potential tests that can be performed in areas such as accounts payable, travel and entertainment, sales, general ledger, etc.)

Detailed Intermediate Session Information:

  • An explanation on updates to the ACL document structure, including updates on the newest version of ACL.
  • Resolve questions from the users about problems/questions the class attendees have regarding prior use of ACL. A questionnaire will be forwarded to class attendees to solicit any issues/problems they have with ACL.
  • As a result of participation and completion of the exercises conducted in the hands-on training course, attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding in the following topic areas: Define ACL Tables, formerly called “Input File Definitions” using difficult data file structures, for example: IBM Mainframe files (also AS400), Standard and non-standard delimited files, Difficult print files, etc. requiring the use of “static” conditionals, ODBC compliant files and databases
  • Use ACL functions, in various ways, to manipulate how ACL processes your data.
  • Learn how to create, apply, retain and delete ACL variables. The use of variables will be applied in the creation of ACL scripts

NOTE: Those interested in attending Day 2 only must currently be using ACL, and be able to perform all items outlined in the Beginner ACL session. Intermediate users must also have a general understanding of the topics listed in the Intermediate ACL session information above.
